International Crisis & Risk Communication Conference: RETHINKING MEDIA

The ICRC Conference is hosted by the Nicholson School of Communication's Center for Crisis Communication at the University of Central Florida on March 4 – 6, 2013 in Orlando, Florida.



SUBMISSION DEADLINES

Title and Abstract:  FRIDAY, 02 NOVEMBER 2012

Notification of Acceptance: FRIDAY, 07 DECEMBER 2012

Finished slide presentation for accepted presentations: MONDAY, 07 JANUARY 2013



The 2013 International Crisis & Risk Communication (ICRC) Conference is calling for abstract papers and presentations in the area of crisis and risk communication, especially those related to the 2013 theme: Rethinking Media. The review committee welcomes submissions including; case studies, original research, lessons learned/best practices, experiential reports, or normative recommendations. The conference encourages submissions reflecting interdisciplinary approaches in this area and those that have application for professionals/practitioners working in the field. Possible topics for presentations could be, but are not limited to, any the following areas:

- Media Relations/Public Relations

- Crisis Leadership and Teamwork

- Risk and Warning Messages

- Food or Health Safety Communication

- Crisis Decision Making

- Ethics (Ethicality) of Risk and Crisis Communication

- Working Effectively with Media



PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Presenters of accepted presentations will provide a slide presentation (e.g. PowerPoint) limited to no more than 30 minutes. This must be submitted by January 7, 2013 to retain acceptance to present. Each presentation must also include three “golden nugget” takeaways (such as recommendations, best practices, lessons learned, foundational principals, favorite tips or resources, etc.) suitable for professionals.



HOW TO SUBMIT

Presentation abstract submissions should be prepared in Microsoft Word and include:

- Title and 500 word (maximum) description of the presentation content

- Note one or more subject areas to which the presentation is most appropriate and include learning objectives

- Name and credentials of the author(s)/presenter (If more than one author, specify one presenter)

- Submissions should be made electronically by 02 NOVEMBER 2012 as an attachment to an email submitted to (ICRC /at/ UCF.EDU)
