[ecrea] Journal of Popular Television: Call for Submissions

Wed Aug 08 17:04:49 GMT 2012

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

I am pleased to announce the inaugural call for papers for the Journal of Popular Television, to be published in 2013 by Intellect.

This peer-reviewed journal invites articles on all aspects of popular television, both fictional and non-fictional, from docudramas and sports to news and cultural programming. Published bi-annually, the journal is rooted in the belief that popular television continues to play a major cultural, political and social role, and thus seeks contributions that contextualise programmes, genres and phenomena. Analysis of national television cultures and style are welcomed, but the editors are particularly interested in interdisciplinary, empirical and comparative approaches to shows and developments across national boundaries. The journal seeks to be equally responsive to contemporary developments in television production and contemporary currents within television criticism and theory, and to historical approaches and re-evaluation of canonical and non-canonical texts. Possible topics of interest might include: studies of individual programmes, format trading, comparisons of differ
ent broadcast policies, quality television, reality television, television personalities and stars, documentaries, sport, children’s television, comedy, and interviews with creative/industry personnel. The journal also welcomes shorter pieces in response to contemporary developments in broadcasting or the field of popular television studies.

The first volume, launching in early 2013, is entirely open-call. Submission is open now, and articles for consideration for the first volume should be sent by 1st October 2012 at the latest to the editor (atjames.leggott /at/ northumbria.ac.uk).

Articles of between 6,000 and 8,000 words in length are invited, and should use the Harvard referencing system. Notes for Contributors are available on the journal website (http://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/journals/view-Journal,id=216/ ) or directly from the editor. Please refer to these notes, in conjunction with the Intellect style guide (also on the journal website) before sending your article. Articles and queries can be submitted directly to the principal editor, James Leggott, (atjames.leggott /at/ northumbria.ac.uk). Articles can also be submitted via the Intellect website.

The journal will publish themed issues and prospective guest editors should approach the editor with a proposal. Prospective book reviewers should also approach the editor directly.

Regards,
James Leggott
