The 4^th /Media History/ Conference, hosted by the Centre for Media
History, Aberystwyth University, will address the ways in which people
have understood the social, cultural and political roles of the media
from the 15^th to the 21^st centuries in a national and international
context.
Participants include:

Gabriele Balbi, Laurel Brake, Hans-Frederick Dahl, Michael Harris,
Mark Hampton, Aled Jones, Chandrika Kaul, Kate Lacey,
Jason McElligott, Darrell Newton, Sean Nixon, Sian Nicholas,
Tom O'Malley, Michael Palmer, Mandy Powell, Joad Raymond,
Joanne Shattock, Mark Turner, Kevin Williams**
Conference panels will interrogate from a range of perspectives the
kinds of understandings that have accompanied the development of the
media (both print and electronic) across time and across different
nations and cultures. Themes include: theories of the media; media
responses to other media; broadcasting as an agent of conservatism or
change; diplomacy, persuasion and the media; war and the press; the
media and education; journalists and journalism; perceptions of the role
of the press across time; the media and intellectual movements; and
regulating the media. The conference will also include specially
convened round table discussions on the media in the early modern and
modern periods.
