DIASPORA, MIGRATION AND MEDIA SECTION –
CALL FOR PANELS, POSTER AND PAPERS

ECREA - EUROPEAN COMMUNICATION CONFERENCE

Theme:  ‘SOCIAL MEDIA, GLOBAL VOICES’.

The conference will take place in Istanbul during 24-27 October 2012.

The ‘Diaspora, Migration and the Media’ section invites proposal in the main theme of the conference but also those not restricted with this theme. to with  all academics and non-academics working with issues within the broad theme of ECREA's 4th international conference ‘SOCIAL MEDIA, GLOBAL VOICES’.

 The section ‘Diaspora, Migration and the Media’ aims to bring together academics and non-academics who work in the field of media and communication regarding the debates and experiences of migration and diasporas.  The section is interested in pushing forward the debate on media, identity politics, race, cultural diversity, multiculturalism, cosmopolitanism, postcolonialism, feminism, and other theoretical approaches as well as established themes, methodologies and approaches.


We encourage work based on interdisciplinary approaches in different aspects of the media, communication, journalism, visual cultures, music, video games, arts, and cultural and film studies fields that address the broad theme of the conference call and intersects with the section’s interests. We welcome proposals which reflect both theoretical and methodological challenges in media, diaspora and communication research as well as those reflecting upon and presenting results from empirical media/communication experiences.

This invitation is for proposals of pre-organized panels, posters, and papers from established academics, young scholars, practitioners and postgraduate research students.


Abstracts should be written in English and should contain a clear outline of the argument, the theoretical framework, and where applicable methodology and results. The preferred length of the individual abstracts is between 400 and 500 words. Panel proposals --which should consist of five individual contributions- combine a panel abstract with five individual abstracts, each of which are between 400 and 500 words.

Participants may submit more than one proposal, but only one paper or poster by the same first author will be accepted and programmed. First authors can still be second (or third, etc.) author of other papers or posters, and can still act as chair or respondent of a panel.
