[ecrea] Call for Proposals: Digital Threats to Democracy
Tue Nov 20 11:34:45 GMT 2018
I am delighted to share the call for proposals for a workshop which I am
organizing in collaboration with the Social Science Research Council.
The purpose of the workshop is to discuss how comparative research can
help us understand, and offer solutions for, some of the challenges that
digital media are posing to democracies around the world. A selection of
the proceedings will be published in a special issue of the
/International Journal of Press/Politics /after peer review.
I hope you will consider submitting proposals for the workshop and I
would be very grateful if you could share this call among your networks.
All the best,
Cristian
The Media & Democracy program
<https://www.ssrc.org/programs/view/media-democracy/> at the Social
Science Research Council <https://www.ssrc.org/> is pleased to announce
a call for proposals for the “*Digital Threats to Democracy: Comparative
Lessons and Possible Remedies*” workshop. This workshop will bring
together social science and humanities scholars to present comparative
research on how countries adapt and respond to digital threats to democracy.
The workshop, organized in collaboration with Cristian Vaccari
<https://cristianvaccari.com/> (Loughborough University), will be held
at the Social Science Research Council in New York City on *June 13-14,
2019*. Accepted participants’ travel and accommodation costs will be
covered by the organizers.
We welcome applications from both junior and senior scholars across all
disciplines. However, the focused nature of the workshop demands that we
limit participation to 10–12 authors. Thus, our selection will be
determined not only by the quality of submissions, but also by their
thematic fit and complementarity.
A selection of the papers presented at the workshop will be invited to
submit full manuscripts of up to 8,000 words for publication in a
special issue of the /International Journal of Press/Politics
<http://journals.sagepub.com/home/hijb>/, subject to peer-review.
To apply, please submit a current C.V. and an abstract of up to 500
words to (mdapplications /at/ ssrc.org) <mailto:(mdapplications /at/ ssrc.org)> by
*February 3, 2019.*
For more information, please see the attached pdf or visit the SSRC
