As a part of the Tenth International Labor Film & Video Festival,
The Sixth International Labor and Communication Conference, intended to 
bring together scholars and activists working on labor and communication 
issues, will be held on 9-10 May in Ankara-Turkey.

CALL FOR PAPERS
The Internet became pervasive with promises of wealth and democracy 
after the commercialization of its backbone by the USA in 1995. In the 
meantime, its distributed feature and its potentials for new forms of 
communication put the Internet at the top of scientific efforts for 
analyzing social transformation. Nowadays analyses, both on the Internet 
and the social transformation mediated through the Internet, are still 
centered around discussions on “promises”, questioning whether they are 
delivered. Although this framework of academic inquiry contributed to 
the creation of a very large literature and substantial critics, it is 
insufficient for a truly critical and comprehensive understanding of our 
conditions. Given that the Internet, as a global communication system, 
turns 20 years old in 2015, it is extremely important to reconsider 
social transformation taken place in this two decades and the Internet 
as a principal component of it in order to achieve a critical and 
comprehensive comprehension.
LaborComm 2015, as was the case in previous years, aims to produce a 
critical and comprehensive knowledge of our time, to create projections 
for the emancipation of labor and the necessary praxis for the 
fulfillment of these projections. To do so, it welcomes your 
contributions. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

* Political economy of the Internet and networks
* Technology and labor processes
* New conceptualizations on labor and labor processes (such as digital 
labor, audience labor, prosumer, prosumption)
* Existing or potential impacts of information and communication 
technologies on production processes
* Labor organizations and new forms of organization based on technology
* Conceptualization of the consequences of the Gezi Struggle in Turkey 
and other social movements around the world.
* Poor working conditions and increasing work-related accidents/murders

1 April 2015: Deadline for abstract submission (max. 500 words) to

10. Uluslararasi Isçi Filmleri Festivali Kapsaminda
Emek ve iletisim üzerine düsünen, çalisan ve siyaset üreten 
akademisyenler ve aktivistler 6. Uluslararasi Isçi ve Iletisim 
Konferansi’nda bir araya geliyor. Konferans, 9-10 Mayis 2015 
tarihlerinde Ankara’da, Ankara Üniversitesi Iletisim Fakültesi Ahmet 
Taner Kislali Sanat Evi’nde gerçeklestirilecektir.

ÇAGRI

1995’te ABD’de omurgasi özel sirketlere devredilen Internet daha 
müreffeh ve demokratik bir toplum vaatleri esliginde dünya çapinda 
yayginlasma sürecine girdi. Dagitik özelligi ve iletisim açisindan 
yarattigi yeni olanaklar, ayni zamanda Internet’i toplum bilimlerinin ve 
toplumsal degisimi çözümlemenin de merkezine yerlestirdi. Internet’i ve 
Internet dolayimi ile toplumsal degisimi çözümleme çabalari hâlâ 
“vaatler” ve bu “vaatlerin” gerçeklesip gerçeklesmedigi çerçevesinde 
yürütülen tartismalar esliginde sürmektedir. Akademik tartismanin bu 
çerçevesi, oldukça genis bir literatürün ve karsi literatürün olusmasina 
katkida bulunmus olmasina ragmen, içinde bulundugumuz durumu elestirel 
ve bütünlüklü bir biçimde kavramamiza yetmemektedir. 2015’te küresel bir 
iletisim sistemi olarak Internet’in 20’nci yilini doldurdugunu göz önüne 
aldigimizda, bu 20 yilda yasanan ve Internet’in de basat bir unsuru 
oldugu toplumsal degisimi yeniden düsünmek ve Internet’i göz ardi 
etmeden elestirel ve bütünlüklü bir biçimde kavrama çabalari önem 
kazanmaktadir.
LaborComm 2015, önceki yillarda oldugu gibi, Internet’in temsil ettigi 
teknolojik gelismeler esliginde yasadigimiz dönemi elestirel ve 
bütünlüklü bir biçimde kavramak, emegin özgürlesiminden yana gelecek 
tasarimlari olusturabilmek, bu tasarimlari gerçeklestirmek üzere gerekli 
praksisi yaratmak amaciyla asagidaki basliklara yogunlasan ama bunlarla 
kisitli olmayan katkilarinizi beklemektedir:

* Internet’in ve aglarin ekonomi politigi.
* Teknoloji ve emek süreçleri.
* Emek ve emek süreçlerine dair yeni kavramlarin (sayisal emek, izleyici 
emegi, üretketici, üretketim vb.) sorgulanmasi.
* Bilgi ve iletisim teknolojilerinin üretim sürecinde 
yarattigi/yaratacagi degisimlerin sorgulanmasi.
* Emek örgütleri ve teknoloji eksenli yeni örgütlenme biçimleri.
* Gezi direnisi ve diger yeni toplumsal hareketlerin ortaya 
çikardiklarinin yeniden degerlendirilmesi.
* Günümüzde yogunlasan isçi cinayetleri.

1 Nisan 2015: Bildiri özetlerinin son gönderilme tarihi. Bildiri

5 Nisan 2015: Kabul edilen bildirilerin duyurulmasi.
3 Mayis 2015: Bildiri metinlerinin son gönderilme tarihi. Tam metinler
