New Book: Information Infrastructures in India: The Long View (2022),
Oxford University Press
This book explores the role of both the public and private sectors in the
shaping of information infrastructures in India. It highlights the
continuities between colonial and post-colonial information infrastructures
with chapters on the 'Victorian Internet' as well as satellite and oceanic
cables. Taking the 'long view' it argues that the provisioning of
information
infrastructures in India have by no means been straightforward. That it has
been shaped by internal and external contestations, ideological ends and
business imperatives.
