[ecrea] The Journal of Pervasive Media (Ubiquity) new issues
Thu Mar 27 14:35:45 GMT 2014
Intellect is delighted to announce the publication of issue 1.2 of The
Journal of Pervasive Media (Ubiquity)
This issue of Ubiquity: The Journal of Pervasive Media presents a
selection of behavioral prototypes that provide models for creative
interventions, mapping a path from the gallery and laboratory, to the
city and countryside.
In this issue, Jon Dovey and Constance Fleuriot articulate the emergent
behaviours and language of the Pervasive Media Studio, while Nicolas
Nova's 'portrait of the near future laboratory' frames the behaviours
necessary to design and make tangible and speculative things for the
near future. Also included is 'Lab Report #2' on data ecologies,
comprising articles on harvesting, sonifying and visualizing
environmental data.
The issue includes an interview with artist and architect Mark Shepard,
who investigates the entanglements of contemporary technologies and
urban life, while B. Aga explores the early work of Roy Ascott, and the
idea that art is a form of behavior.
Finally, Paolo Maria Rodrigues, Rolf Gehlhaar, Luis Miguel Girao and Rui
Penha report on a project in which tools were developed to allow musical
expression in physically and mentally disabled people, and Wolfgang Fiel
describes a project initiated by architectural group tat ort, with the
aim of looking into living conditions of segregated, dense and
conflict-laden social housing estates.

Call for papers Ubiquity: The Journal of Pervasive Media is an
international peer reviewed journal for creative and transdisciplinary
practitioners interested in technologies, practices and behaviours that
have the potential to radically transform human perspectives on the
world. ‘Ubiquity’, the ability to be everywhere at the same time, a
potential historically attributed to the occult, is now a common feature
of the average mobile phone. The title refers explicitly to the advent
of ubiquitous computing that has been hastened through the consumption
of networked digital devices. The journal anticipates the consequences
for design and research in a culture where everyone and everything is
connected, and will offer a context for visual artists, designers,
scientists and writers to consider how Ubiquity is transforming our
relationship with the world.
To submit a paper, please view the call for papers section of the
Journal's home page, or contact the editors.
