Diffractions - Graduate Journal for the Study of Culture

First Issue| Crisicism: The Cultural Discourse of Crisis

The first issue of Diffractions - Graduate Journal for the Study of Culture is now online. Published bi-annually, Diffractions is an online, open access and peer-reviewed journal, founded and edited by the doctoral students in Culture Studies at the Catholic University of Portugal - The Lisbon Consortium programme.

Under the theme 'Crisicism: The Cultural Discourse of Crisis', this first issue gathers contributions that reflect upon the concept of crisis across several domains, from history to cinema, literature and the visual arts. This issue also includes an interview with Andreas Huyssen, Professor for Comparative Literature at Columbia University and founder of New German Critique.

DIFFRACTIONS wishes to constitute a platform where graduate students and other young researchers can showcase their current research as well as reviews of the latest books of interest in the field. The scope of the journal is interdisciplinary and transcultural. Its welcomes contributions from a wide range of disciplines that share a common interest in the multiple ways cultures produce meaning, including but not limited to critical theory, cultural studies, comparative literature, cultural history, translation studies, postcolonial studies, visual culture, film, media and gender studies, popular culture, museum studies, memory studies, amongst others.

The journal accepts contributions in English, Portuguese and Spanish and every issue is dedicated to a cultural problem. The call for articles for the second issue, dedicated to the theme '(Un-)Boundedness: On Mobility and Belonging', is open until November 15.
