[ecrea] International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics - Special issue on Climate Change

Tue Sep 17 00:23:29 GMT 2013

International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics

Special issue 9.1 on Climate Change out now (Intellect)

Edited by An Nguyen and Matthew Hibberd

Climate change is one of the key political, economic and social issues facing the human race in the twenty-first century. One of the key problems examined by articles in this issue is that common visions or mutual understandings of climate change have remained difficult to execute properly, whether one looks at international agreements or initiatives in affecting behavioural change. While the scientific basis for climate change arguments strengthens year by year, finding any unity of purpose among publics to tackle the climate change issues remains elusive. Climate change communications are tied too closely to vaguer and contested notions of national, regional and local identities, cultural meanings and values, media treatment of climate change debates and audience dissemination of texts and images.

ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics (MCP) is committed to analysing the politics of communication(s) and cultural processes. It addresses cultural politics in their local, international and global dimensions, recognizing equally the importance of issues defined by their specific cultural geography and those which traverse cultures and nations. MCP promotes critical, in-depth, engaged research on the intersections of sociology, politics, cultural studies and media studies and invites sharp, contemporary, stimulating analyses of issues of live concern for a broad range of cultures and nations and for the international community.

Edited by Katharine Sarikakis and Neil Blain.
