CHALLENGING METHODS FOR GAMES RESEARCH
Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December 2015
A two-day workshop by ECREA digital games research
Belgium, Ghent, Het Pand
The ECREA Section Digital Games Research (www.digital-games.eu) is
organizing an exclusive two-day workshop on the methodological
challenges facing current empirical digital games research. Its goal is
to identify focal areas, gather best practices and develop a strategy
for further action. It provides a platform for researchers with
different backgrounds and perspectives to exchange ideas and learn from
each other’s experiences. The end result will be a joint publication
based on the outcomes of the workshop.
Call for presentations:
We invite the submission of proposals for 7-minute presentations
discussing interesting challenges or creative solutions to empirical
games research questions. Methods under consideration include but are
not limited to survey research, experimental research, observational
studies, content analysis, interview-based research, etc., and they can
be related to any step in the research process: developing theory, study
design, data collection, analysis or reporting.
If you are interested, please submit an abstract of maximum 500 words
that includes: a) topic under discussion; b) rationale for the selected
question or phenomenon and c) anticipated discussion directions before
16 November to winterworkshop[at]digital-games[dot]eu.
Intended audience:
International games researchers, in communication science, media
psychology, HCI, educational science & beyond.
Speakers will include (among others): Thorsten Quandt, Jan van Looy,
Daniel Pietschmann, Anissa All, Tony van Rooij, Jory Deleuze, a.o.
