Call for papers



The team of the research project “Identity Narratives and Social Memory” 
and the Communication and Society Research Center of University of Minho 
invite you to submit a paper to the upcoming International Seminar 
“Narratives and social memory: theoretical and methodological approaches”.



The seminar aims at discussing the impact and consequences of different 
approaches, currently dominant theories, as well emerging ones in the 
field. As we came to notice, the interest about these issues has 
considerably grown in the past decades, however they are still studied 
in very fragmented paths. There for, it is essential to promote the 
transdisciplinary and multi-method approaches.



The seminar will feature prominent researchers from different world 
regions presently working on these themes across social sciences in 
light of postcolonial perspectives. By bringing together researchers 
from a wide spectrum of disciplines, this international seminar intends 
to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and explore sustainable 
networking. Hence, we welcome scholars from diverse disciplines such as 
Anthropology, Communication Sciences, Computer Sciences, Cultural 
Studies, Education, Geography, History, Linguistic, Literature, 
Political Science, Psychology and Sociology.



We will dedicate special attention to the role of cultural industries in 
the (re)construction of ethnic, national, and postnational identities 
and the way they influence both interpersonal and international 
relations in contemporary world. However, papers related to other 
aspects of narratives, identity and memory will be considered, as well 
as papers focused on methodological issues.



After the event it will be published an ebook with selected papers.



Please submit your proposal with an abstract up to 300 words for an oral 
paper or poster, and a brief biography of about 150 words to the seminar 
organizers: (nims /at/ ics.uminho.pt)



The proposals (English only) must contain: name, academic affiliation, 
and contacts. The deadline is March 31, 2012 – notification of paper and 
poster acceptance will be no later than April 30, 2012.
