Extended Call for Papers and Panels - Doing Autoethnography: Here and Now
The Graduate Student Association of The Department of Communication at Wayne State University invites submissions of completed papers, extended abstracts, and panel proposals to be considered for presentation at the “Doing Autoethnography: Here and Now” graduate conference November 4 - 5, 2011 in Detroit. Dr. Carolyn Ellis (University of South Florida), author of “The Ethnographic I: A Methodological Novel about Autoethnography” and pioneer in the field of autoethnography, will deliver the keynote address titled, “Humanizing Social Science Research: Autoethnography, Reflexive Writing, and Collaborative Witnessing.” The conference also features autoethnography workshops facilitated by Dr. Tony Adams (Northeastern Illinois University), Dr. Sandra Pensoneau-Conway (Wayne State University), Dr. Satoshi Toyosaki (Southern Illinois University Carbondale), and Dr. Adrienne Viramontes (University of Wisconsin-Parkside).
Potential papers, extended abstracts, or panel proposals might employ autoethnographic methods on a variety of topics (e.g., gender, sexuality, race, education), address autoethnography on a theoretical or methodological level, work to further aspects of autoethnography (or autoethnography in general), and/or interrogate practices in autoethnographic methods. Creative and innovative approaches to autoethnography are also encouraged. All papers, extended abstracts, and panels utilizing or discussing autoethnography are invited.
Completed papers should be no longer than 30 pages. Extended abstracts for papers and panel proposals should range from 3 to 8 pages. Panel proposals should include a rationale, list of participants with affiliation information, and individual paper abstracts if applicable. Other methods of doing autoethnography that might not translate to written form are also invited. The extended deadline for submissions is Monday, August 1, 2011. Participants will be notified of acceptance no later than August 10, 2011. Conference programming will be released September 1, 2011.
Additional information can be found at doingautoethnography.com. Please direct all inquiries and submissions to Derek Bolen, (dmbolen /at/ wayne.edu).
