PSB-Digital Project | Final Workshop
Date: February 6th 2012 (Monday).
Venue: Hanse-Office in Brussels, Avenue Palmerston 20, B-1000 Brussels.
Free attendance, but registration is required.
Dear Colleagues,
The Hans Bredow Institute for Media Research is organizing the “The
Adaptation of Public Service Broadcasting to the Multiplatform
Scenario”. It will be hosted by the Hanse-Office in Brussels.
The workshop wants to analyse the current transformations as well as the
extension experienced by Public Service Broadcasting due to technology
innovation. Both factors have resulted in relevant conflicts and
discussions within the media market, which have also fostered an intense
political debate.
The event will include 3 sessions:
1. “Redefining and Repositioning Public Service Media in the
Multiplatform Scenario: Challenges, Opportunities and Risks”
Dr. Roberto Suárez Candel, researcher in charge of the PSB-Digital
project, which has been funded by the Marie Curie Programme, will
present the final findings concerning the current transformations and
challenges that public service broadcasters must face with regard to
their remit, organization and performance. Moreover, the conclusions
resulting from the comparison of the adaptation strategies implemented
by public operators in Germany, Poland and Spain will be discussed.
2. Professional / Academic Debate Panel: “Adapting Public Service to the
‘Anything, Anywhere, Anytime’ Paradigm: National Strategies in Germany,
Poland and Spain"
A panel including representatives from national public broadcasters and
academic scholars will discuss how public service can make the most of
innovation and of the multiplatform scenario, how to improve its
performance in order to provide citizens with a better value for money
and how to face the hostilities by commercial players.
3. Supranational Debate Panel: “Regulation and Accountability: Shaping
the Extension and the Future of Public Service Media”
Members of the European Commission’s services, the European Parliament,
the Council of Europe and the European Broadcasting Union will analyse
the international debate regarding public service media and how
supranational institutions can influence, determine or contribute to
national policies. The debate will be focused on the accountability of
public service and how the current ex-ante evaluation trends in this
field might have an impact on its evolution and extension.
