[Commlist] new special issue on images

We happily write to announce the publication of “Images,” the first part of a special issue of Semiotic Review:https://www.semioticreview.com/ojs/index.php/sr/issue/view/9 <https://www.semioticreview.com/ojs/index.php/sr/issue/view/9>.


The issue presents an interdisciplinary approach to the semiotic study of images, with contributions from scholars from a range of disciplines, from linguistic anthropology, ethnomusicology, and visual anthropology to visual studies, art history, and film studies.


The Table of Contents for Part 1 is:

-Images: An Introduction, by Meghanne Barker and Constantine V. Nakassis

- Opening Up the Indexicality of the Image, Again (a virtual roundtable), with Christopher Ball, Elizabeth Edwards, Meghanne Barker, Tomáš Kolich, W. J. T. Mitchell, Daniel Morgan, and Constantine V. Nakassis (moderator).

- Spectral Signage, A Conversation with Steven Feld: Steven Feld, Meghanne Barker, and Constantine V. Nakassis

- Deixis and the Linguistic Anthropology of Cinema, by Constantine V. Nakassis

- Image into Sequence: Colonial Photography and the Invention of Filipino Evolution, by Angela Reyes

- Dirty Pictures: Performativity and the Obscene Image, by Esra Soraya Padgett

Part 2 of the special issue is currently under production and will feature essays by: Erika Hoffmann-Dilloway, Martin Lefebvre, Keith Murphy, and Kristina Wirtz.

As always, issues of Semiotic Review are always open for new publications. If you have an essay (or review, interview, etc.) that you think would fit into the rubric of the issue, please email us to submit your essay for consideration.
