[ecrea] NANO: New American Notes Online Announces Publication of Issue 10: Originality in a Digital Age

Wed Jan 04 07:49:28 GMT 2017

/NANO: New American Notes Online/, [www.nanocrit.com <http://www.nanocrit.com/>] a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary humanities journal, published by City Tech-CUNY, has officially published Issue 10: Originality in a Digital Culture. This special issue is the result of a collaboration among guest editors Tara Robbins Fee and Samuel B. Fee (Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, PA), the six article authors and interviewees, and /NANO/’s editorial team: Sean Scanlan and Rebecca Devers.

This special issue of /NANO/ begins with these two certainties: originality has long occupied an august position in American culture; and new ways of thinking about originality and the ownership and influence of ideas are needed, especially in our digital age.

“In this issue of /NANO/,” write the guest editors, “we consider how the ideal of originality is reshaped by practices of sharing in which the dominant approach is to disseminate information and art as widely as possible through others. We look to explore the consequences of such sharing practices on the value of original work as commodity.”
