[ecrea] New online audiovisual journal - Sightlines: Filmmaking in the Academy

Wed Dec 09 11:22:35 GMT 2015

Sightlines was a part film festival, part conference held at RMIT in
late 2014. It showcased the range and quality of films produced in an
academic context, in Australia and internationally. Dramas and
documentaries, shorts and features, film and television, mainstream and
experimental work were all screened. Panel, presentation and discussion
sessions around screenwriting, screen production research, the
academy/industry relationship and many other topics were also held.
Following the event, a decision was made to pilot an ‘audiovisual
journal’, where screen works would be peer-reviewed and published. It is
our pleasure to announce that the the first issue of the Sightlines
Journal is now available on the ASPERA website at:

There are seven works featured, with each work being accompanied by an
optional filmmaker’s statement, the two peer reviews and an optional
response to the reviews from the filmmaker. Many thanks to the
filmmakers, screenwriters and reviewers who participated in this
process. You are strongly encouraged to participate too with a comments
section under each screen work. We are hoping the approach we have taken
to this publication will encourage a continuing dialogue around what it
means to make a film as research.

We would also like to announce that the Sightlines event will be
returning in late 2016, on November 28 and 29 at RMIT University in
Melbourne. A Call for Submissions will be circulated in the New Year.

Thanks,

Leo
