Journal of Intercultural Communication
The world today is characterized by an ever
growing number of contacts resulting in
communication between people with different
linguistic and cultural backgrounds. This
communication takes place because of contacts
within the areas of business, military
cooperation, science, education, massmedia,
entertainment, tourism but also because of
immigration brought about by labor shortage or political conflicts.
In all these contacts, there is communication
which needs to be as constructive as possible,
without misunderstandings and breakdowns. It is
our belief that research on the nature of
linguistic and cultural similarities and
differences here can play a positive and constructive role.
The goal of the Journal of Intercultural
communication is to promote research but also
education and training in the area of
intercultural communication. The journal is an
outgrowth of the activities of NIC - the Nordic
Network for Intercultural Communication. The
great interest shown in the activities of NIC
have pointed to a need for more journals
employing a peer review procedure within the
area of intercultural communication. By starting
this journal, we hope to encourage more research
and to facilitate contacts between interested
researchers as well as to provide better
possibilities for reviewed publication.
We welcome contributions and reviews concerning
all areas of intercultural communication.
In the Journal of Intercultural Communication,
we are testing a new form of publication -
"gradual publication". Rather than delaying
publication for those articles that have already
been accepted until all articles needed for the
publication have been refereed and revised, we
have decided to publish accepted articles, later
adding other accepted papers until the issue is complete.
JICC is free and on-line. We have roughly 2500
readers per month. Please fell free to send in
articles for peer review and publication.
