[Commlist] 3rd International Symposium on Women in Audiovisual Culture

Hanzade Uralman is pleased to announce that the *3rd International
Symposium on Women in Audiovisual Culture* will be held on *April 9–11,
2026*, jointly organized by the Department of Cinema and Television at
the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture, and the Department of
Public Relations and Advertising at the Faculty of Applied Sciences,
Istanbul Okan University. The symposium will take place at Istanbul Okan
University Tuzla Campus on *April 9–10*, and at SALT Galata on *April 11*.
As the third edition of this international gathering, the symposium aims
to explore women’s production, representation, and participation in
audiovisual culture through an interdisciplinary lens. The 2026 program
is structured around four thematic areas: *“Women and Artificial
Intelligence: New Realms of Digital Subjectivity in Audiovisual
Culture,” “Women, Ecology, and Vitality in Audiovisual Culture,”
“Women’s Creative Resistance in Audiovisual Culture: The Testimony of
Art in Times of War, Conflict, and Crisis,”* and *“Open Participation
Fields in Audiovisual Culture: Women’s Narratives, Memory, and Creativity.”*
A special colloquium titled *“New Generation Women Academics: Voices,
Methods, and Solidarity in the Digital Age”* will also be featured
within the program. A separate application category will be available
for the colloquium, which is *open to all women master’s and doctoral
students*. The colloquium aims to provide a space for young women
scholars to present their research in audiovisual culture and to discuss
methodological and theoretical approaches. Strengthening their voices,
addressing the structural challenges they face, and fostering networks
of solidarity constitute the core goals of the colloquium.
Open to artists, researchers, academics, and students, the symposium
seeks to provide an inspiring environment for sharing innovative
perspectives, creative work, and critical reflections. Abstracts in
Turkish or English must be submitted via the online application form by
*16 February 2026*.
