[Commlist] Visualising populist identities - Online Symposium

Théo Aiolfi and Jessica Wax-Edwards would like to warmly invite all the 
colleagues interested in the study of populism, political communication 
and visual methods to join them for the online symposium “Visualising 
populist identities: populist performance(s) on screens” which will take 
place on Tuesday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3, 2025.


This symposium is organized by the Centre for Mexican Studies, 
University College Cork (Ireland) and the Centre Interlangues Texte, 
Image, Langage, Université Bourgogne Europe (France) in collaboration 
with the Populism Specialist Group of the Political Studies Association. 
Over two days, the symposium will host presentations from a wide range 
of scholars working on the visual dimension of the populist phenomenon, 
from charismatic leaders to online memes and social protest movements.


They are particularly proud to be joined by Benjamin Moffitt (Monash 
University, Australia) and María Esperanza Casullo (Universidad Nacional 
de Río Negro, Argentina) who will act as keynote speakers, with 
presentations respectively entitled "The Visual Politics of Populism: 
Reflections on the (Accidental) Creation of a Subfield" and "Baroque 
Bodies: Appearance and Performance in Latin American Populism".
