Diversity and cultural industries
** Deadline for submission of articles: March 13, 2017 **
The communication journal Quaderns del CAC opens a new call for papers
for the monographic section devoted to the analysis of diversity in
cultural industries and initiatives for the protection and promotion.
In a context of transformation of the ways in which goods and services
conveyed by cultural industries are produced, distributed, consumed and
monetized, the last decade has witnessed a proliferation of ideas and
debates that lay on the table the need to preserve and promote the
diversity of cultural goods and services, both in the traditional
analogic landscape as in the digital one. The states, in fact, have been
reaffirmed their capacity to formulate public policies in this direction
under the shelter of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity
(2001) and the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the
Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005) approved by UNESCO. However,
the definition and the implementation of the concept of diversity are
far from being simple: it is not easy to answer what diversity is and
why it is desirable, since its omnipresence covers so many different
areas and, on several occasions, motivates speeches pointing to opposite
directions. In this scenario it is vital to understand the challenges
the diversity of content produced, distributed and promoted daily by the
cultural industries must face; in particular, how digitization
transforms the production, distribution and consumption of cultural
goods and services, creating new opportunities but also risks.
Proposals shall be referred to these topics of interest, among others:
- Assessing the impact of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion
of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (UNESCO, 2005) after a decade
of its adoption.
- Implementation and adaptation of the 2005 UNESCO Convention for the
digital age.
- Internet cultural agents and practices that contribute to its
diversity: mapping and challenges.
- Diversity in digital audiovisual (cinema, radio, television, music,
video, OTT): content, structure and public policy.
- Best practices for diversity in cultural industries.
- Copyright, copyright and diversity in cultural industries.
- Measure and statistics to assess the diversity of cultural expressions.
- The governance of the international trade in cultural goods and
services: challenges and opportunities for diversity.
- The role of international cooperation in the promotion and protection
of cultural expressions.
- Specific Issues of diversity in cultures of stateless nations.
We also encourage you to participate in the miscellaneous 'Articles'
section, with contributions of ongoing research on audiovisual
communication and culture. The call for papers for this section is
permanently open.
The text must be original and unpublished and not be subject currently
under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed
through a double-blind peer review process. Quaderns del CAC will
provide the authors with the positive or negative result of the review
within one month and a half after the submission of the article. The
text must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines of the journal.
