THE ZOO AND SCREEN MEDIA: A ONE DAY SYMPOSIUM

Tuesday 25th October 2016

Silverstone 309, University of Sussex, 1.00pm--6.00pm

Organised by the School of Media, Film and Music, University of Sussex 
and the School of Culture and Creative Arts, University of Glasgow

This symposium examines the zoo’s relationship with screen media 
histories and technologies and includes presentations on the 
representation of zoological space in amateur film, reality television, 
popular animation, family films and documentaries.

Speakers:

Brett Mills (University of East Anglia) on the Madagascar trilogy
Laura McMahon (University of Cambridge) on Nicholas Philibert
Gwenda Young (University College Cork) on RTE's The Zoo
Karen Lury (University of Glasgow) on zoos and amateur film
Michael Lawrence (University of Sussex) on We Bought a Zoo and Our Zoo
