 From Wikipedia:

"...Perry Mason is a fictional character, a criminal defense lawyer who
is the main character in works of detective fiction written by Erle
Stanley Gardner. Perry Mason is featured in more than 80 novels and
short stories, most of which involve his client's murder trial.
Typically, Mason establishes his client's innocence by implicating
another character, who then confesses. The character of Perry Mason was
adapted for motion pictures and a long-running radio series. These were
followed by its best-known adaptation, the CBS television series Perry
Mason (1957–66) starring Raymond Burr. A second television series, The
New Perry Mason starring Monte Markham, ran from 1973 to 1974; and 30
Perry Mason television films ran from 1985 to 1995, with Burr reprising
the role of Mason in 26 of them prior to his death. The Perry Mason
series ranks third in the top ten bestselling book series. In 2015 the
American Bar Association's publishing imprint, Ankerwycke, began
reissuing Gardner's Perry Mason books, which had been out of print in
the United States."

- There have been talks of a movie at some point with Robert Downey,
Jr.:
http://www.inquisitr.com/2184717/robert-downey-jr-could-be-taking-on-iconic-character-for-next-big-role-if-so-its-a-perfect-choice/.
But OC will do the book even if the movie does not come out.
- Even though Robert Downey, Jr. et al. haven't announced whether
they're doing a PM movie or not (no news on the PM project with Downey
since June of 2015, from what we can see), we're still going ahead with
the book.
- We have 8 papers already, but we need 10-12 more. Consider a salient
philosophical point worth exploring in/through PM and send Rob Arp a
short, no-longer-than-300-word abstract: (robertarp320 /at/ gmail.com)
<mailto:(robertarp320 /at/ gmail.com)>
- Get Rob Arp an abstract ASAP. If you need a deadline, February 15 works.
- The deadline for completed chapters will be September 1, 2016.
- 3,000 to 3,500-word philosophy papers are written in a conversational
style for a lay audience.
- Papers must frequently refer to characters, events, and stories in
Perry Mason.
- The Perry Mason syndrome
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Mason_syndrome) and the The Perry
Mason moment (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perry_Mason_moment) are
incredibly fascinating, and it would be good to have a chapter on these.

Here are some other ideas:

- Is manipulating evidence ever acceptable?
- PM’s deductive/reductive abilities, do they make for a modern day
philosopher?
- A virtue ethics view of PM: can he look himself in the mirror after
every trial?
- PM the internal justifier: intuition carries over the court room.
- The proof of guilt: how logic plays a role in PM stories.
- Causation and PM: do the lawyer’s tactics cause his clients to be
innocent?
- The predetermined path of PM: will he ever lose a case?
- Does PM truly “know” his client’s innocence? What is the nature of
this knowledge?
- PM’s legal counsel: do all general truths supervene on particular facts?
- A theological view of PM’s investigation tactics.
