The Organizing Committee is glad to inform you that the Call for Papers
of the 6th conference on visuality and 3th conference on tourism vs
heritage “Visuality 2017: Tourism vs Urban Heritage in a Creative City”
is open.
Introduction
According to C. Landry, R. Florida and other scholars, a creative city
values cultural heritage and attracts tourists. Visual treasures attract
people. Unfortunately, a large flow of short-term tourists increases
noise, pollution and even crime. Heritage and tourism appear as two
uncoordinated strategies instead of two sides of the same trend. This
contradiction puzzles urban policy makers. It hurts a city’s image. A
lack of clear direction in a city’s development is a bad signal for
investors. What visual ecology could make sense of these dilemmas? What
should the policy of a creative city be with regard to the tensions
between tourism and urban heritage? How do we conceive and visualize a
creative city in the face of these contradictions? Which multimedia
technologies are most promising for solution of creative city problems?
