*Call for papers*

*/Quaderns del CAC/**, issue 42, July 2016*

*OTT, new frontiers and challenges*

*** Deadline for submission of articles: April 18, 2016 ***

The communication journal /Quaderns del CAC/ opens a new call for papers
for the monographic section devoted to audiovisual services Over-the-top
(OTT).

Under the label OTT, the network offers TV and video content. We would
like to differentiate it from the label IPTV, commonly restricted to the
big telecommunications companies multichannel TV platforms that compete
with cable, satellite and DTT platforms. Access to OTT can be free or
conditional due to economic reasons, copyright protection,
geo-restrictions or limitations set by the application of the
regulation. The repertoire is diverse and covers activities from simple
streaming broadcast signal from a standard television channel parallel
to the normal distribution; access to the programming of the last week
(catch-up), or access "on demand" through the repositories of cinema,
TV, user generated content, mixed, etc., internet TV channels, the video
blogs or social networking video. Other complementary actions are also
noteworthy, such as the supply of video content in media, corporations
and institutions websites. It should be also outlined the role of
audiovisual content search engines and indexers. We are interested in
exploring new frontiers opening up and the challenges posed by OTT for
TV and audiovisual industry as a whole.

Proposals shall be referred to these topics of interest, among others:

- Content: supply, production, genres, formats, packaging, programming, etc.

- Audience: consumption patterns, audiometry, analysis of big data,
participation, social audience, etc.

- Technology: Internet, broadband, screens, interactivity, mobility, etc.

- Economics: funding, business models, value chain, monetization of
visualizations, investment in advertising, subscription, production
costs, distribution costs, etc.

- Regulation: international, state and regional regulation, copyright
rights, vulnerable groups, production, distribution, cultural exception,
communication policy, etc.

- Advertising: genres and formats, unbranded or branded content,
sponsorship, product placement, etc.

We also encourage you to participate in the miscellaneous 'Articles'
section, with contributions of ongoing research on audiovisual
communication and culture. The call for papers for this section is
permanently open.

The text must be original and unpublished and not be subject currently
under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are refereed
through a double-blind peer review process. /Quaderns del CAC/ will
provide the authors with the positive or negative result of the review
within one month and a half after the submission of the article. The
text must be submitted in accordance with the guidelines of the journal
<http://www.cac.cat/pfw_files/cma/recerca/quaderns_cac/Q41_Articles_guidelines_EN.pdf>.
