REMINDER: CALL FOR PAPERS

Global Journalism Symposium 2015, Kristiansand, Norway

6 October 2015

Plenary speakers: Anton Harber (South Africa), Thomas Hanitzsch (Germany) and Monica Chibita (Uganda).

The Global Journalism Symposium 2015 brings together scholars for a day of discussion and exchange. The symposium will have both plenary sessions with invited guest speakers and break-away sessions with paper presentations. The plenary sessions will especially focus on the question of values in journalism research and practice: Is there a future for universal values in journalism amidst the massive changes that the profession is undergoing?

The symposium takes place at NLA University College in Kristiansand at the southernmost tip of Norway. The destination (KRS) is easily accessible with direct flights from cities such as Oslo, Copenhagen and Amsterdam.

Abstracts due: 15 August 2015
Notification on abstract acceptance:  20 August 2015
Registration due: 15 September 2015
Symposium date: 6 October 2015

Please submit abstracts to (terje.skjerdal /at/ nla.no) (approx. 300 words).

Topics for papers include, but are not limited to:
. studies in comparative journalism
. in-depth study of journalism culture
. universal/particular values in journalism practice
. new media practice
. north/south media exchange
. media development
. alternative journalisms
. intercultural issues in journalism

In the presentations we would like to see a combination of focused studies of journalistic practice in specific societies as well as studies inducing a wide-ranging global view. Presentation of results from ongoing PhD projects is encouraged.

Attendance fee: NOK 500 (includes lunch). Equivalent to approx. EUR 60.
