Introduction
Law, ethics and policy often attempt to bring rules and order to the media, information and communications sectors of various countries as well as to the social spaces where media interact with institutions, the public and private individuals. Ideally, such laws, ethics and policy formulations must realise a healthy balance between protection of the rights and integrity of individuals, the public and institutions vis-à -vis freedom of the media and rights to information. The inception of digital technologies at the turn of the century portends numerous challenges for media and communications regulators and media practitioners alike. We invite contributions across all imaginable media law, ethics and policy in the digital age, as this book aspires to be universal and comprehensive in its coverage of topics and issues. Treatment of topical events and processes that have caught the global media attention are welcome, ranging from Julian Assange’s WikiLeaks, Edward Snowden’s exposures of invasion of privacy by the U.S. government, disgraced former IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn alleged sex scandal, South Africa’s Oscar Pistorious’ hyper-mediated court trial, Charlie Hebdo cartoons and ‘sacrilege’, industrial phone hacking, etc, notwithstanding the usual cases of (criminal) libel, invasion of privacy and normative approaches to media and new/social media practices. Chapters in Media Law, Ethics and Policy in the Digital Age should be able to enunciate the challenges of news gathering and how the craftsmanship of media practitioners require rethinking in the context of enabling and equally intrusive technologies available not only to media but state institutions and other snoopers. This book project tries to draw some empirical (social) media and journalism studies from global contexts entangled in the World Information Society and new ICTs. Authors should provide basic, stimulating and/or exceptional examples to illustrate their chosen case narratives.

Objective
This publication with a comparative global focus aims to be a timely and essential reference source, building on the available literature in the field of media law, ethics and policy at a time when new ICTs and digital technologies offer new challenges and opportunities to communicative actions. It is hoped that this text will provide updated reference materials for researchers and policymakers in line with realities of new communication technologies across the globe. The methodology of the book on media law and ethics requires that contributors be conversant with comparative empirical materials from at least two countries pertaining to specific issues on a chosen area. While maintaining a general global focus, the book will endeavour to give a fair representation of media law, ethics and policy chapters with empirical examples drawn from areas that have been historically marginalised in major media law, ethics and policy texts. These areas include Africa and nations of the global South.

Target Audience
Media and communications policymakers, academicians, researchers, advanced-level, graduate and post graduate students, government officials and active media practitioneers such as journalists, filmmakers and musicians, etc., interested in regional, continental and global media law, ethics and policy issues trends will find this text useful in furthering their understanding of these subjects with new cases and examples, especially with the contemporary complexities associated with new information technologies and the digital age.

Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before August 30, 2015, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by September 15, 2015, about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by January 15, 2016, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Media Law, Ethics, and Policy in the Digital Age. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process. All proposals should be submitted through the E-Editorial DiscoveryTM online submission manager.
