Thu Aug 01 13:53:14 GMT 2013

CALL FOR PAPERS: Media and Politics Group Stream, 64th Political Studies Association Annual International Conference (Manchester, 14-16 April 2014)

Abstracts Deadline: 30 September 2013

The Political Studies Association’s Media and Politics Group (MPG) is an international network of academics interested in political science, media and communications, news and journalism, media policy and citizenship. The Political Studies Association is the UK’s leading association in the study and research of politics and the second largest in the world. The Media and Politics Group is one of its largest specialist groups, with a membership of around 150 academic colleagues in this area.

The Media and Politics Group will be convening a series of panels as part of the Political Studies Association’s 64th annual conference to be held at the Midland Hotel, Manchester, 14-16 April 2014.

The theme of this year’s conference is Rebels and Radicals. The Media and Politics Group welcomes submissions relating to revolutionary, radical, marginal, alternative and cutting edge activities in the interplay between media and politics. Such areas might include (but are certainly not limited to): the impacts of media revolutions and radical changes in media practices upon political practices and structures; the impacts of political revolutions and radical shifts in political landscapes upon media practices and environments; and the ways in which new media forms and technologies and new social and political uses of those forms and technologies are redefining the roles and voices of those both core and marginal to political society.

While priority may be given to papers dealing with the conference theme, high-quality submissions dealing with any aspect of media and politics are always welcomed. The Media and Politics Group is committed to an inclusive, international and inter-disciplinary approach which welcomes a broad spectrum of excellent research in this field.

Proposals should include the following: title and name, institutional affiliation and address of each author, along with their preferred email address; and a paper title and abstract of not more than 200 words. You should also say whether or not you are a postgraduate student. Please note that abstracts that exceed the 200 word limit will not be accepted.

Proposals for papers for the Media and Politics Group panels should be sent by Monday 30 September 2013 (toalec.charles /at/ beds.ac.uk)<mailto:(alec.charles /at/ beds.ac.uk)>

(Please note that this is an earlier deadline than for non-MPG submissions and that late abstracts will not be considered.)

In common with previous years, abstracts submitted for the Media and Politics Group stream will be subject to two levels of peer review. In addition, the Political Studies Association has a policy of limiting postgraduate student participation to no more than one per panel.
