Call for Papers Depth of Field #5 and #6
(theme issue on Photography, Tourism and
Looking at ‘The Other’)
We invite submissions to Depth of Field, a scientific open-access
journal about photography and media culture in the Low Countries,
published in English (journal.depthoffield.eu). It focuses on the
history and theory of photography and media culture in the Netherlands
and Belgium, within an international context. Depth of Field appears
twice a year, is published by Scherptediepte foundation
(www.scherptediepte.eu) and is supported by The Netherlands Organisation
for Scientific Research (NWO).
In order to mobilize new critical interventions into the study of
photography and media culture, we welcome contributions that investigate:
· the history of photography/media culture
· the work of a particular artist/photographer
· various genres and kinds of photographic and media practice
· diverse theoretical approaches to the study of photography/media
culture
We invite (previously unpublished) contributions from scholars working
in different domains such as visual arts, art history, history,
photography theory, journalism, film and video studies, media,
communication and popular culture studies, as well as science and
technology studies and visual anthropology and sociology.
Interdisciplinary research is particularly welcome.
We invite traditional essays (ca. 4000 words) as well as a variety of
alternative formats, such as critical etymologies, visual/photographic
essays and book/exhibition reviews (1500 words max.).
