From Floor to Ceiling: A symposium on South Asian floor-drawings and murals

members and £5 for individual panel sessions for SALF delegates.

Description: This event is organised by the University of Westminster's 
Centre for Research and Education in Art and Media (CREAM), the South 
Asian Arts Group (SAAG) and the South Asian Literature Festival (SALF). 
'From Floor to Ceiling' offers a full programme of events: including an 
exclusive visit to view archival material at The British Library; 
an-situ drawing 'performance'; screenings of short films; a slide show 
of seldom seen photographs from the 70s and 80s; a lecture on mural 
conservation efforts in Bhutan and papers on a range of traditions and 
contemporary practices across India, in Nepal and among the Sri Lankan 
Tamil Diaspora in the UK. Panels include Domestic Practices: Points of 
View, ?Private and Public Spaces: Contemporary Explorations, The Sacred 
and the Royal: Historical and other Perspectives. The symposium will be 
complemented by an online exhibition (21 October - 3 November 2013) with 
accompanying text on references to floor-drawings in Indian literature, 
to be hosted by the South Asian Literature Festival.
