CALL FOR PAPERS
Doing Cultural Studies: Interrogating Practice
A one-day postgraduate and early career researcher symposium, supported
by the Cultural Studies Association of Australasia
Tuesday 3 December 2013
Swinburne University of Technology
Hawthorn campus, Melbourne, Australia
Organised by: Jenny Kennedy, Emily Van Der Nagel and James Meese
(Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne)
This Intermezzo Symposium provides emerging cultural studies scholars a
forum to interrogate and unpack the idea of practice in its many guises.
Through a series of presentations, workshops, and roundtable
discussions, participants will discuss the emergence of practice theory
over the past decade, their own research practice and methodologies, and
what it means to practice or do cultural studies.
Whether interested in presenting their own work, or simply coming along
to find out about emerging research and meet fellow scholars, we welcome
attendees from diverse research backgrounds.
We invite postgraduate students and early career researchers to submit
proposals for presentations around the conference theme. Possible
approaches include (but are not limited to):
* Everyday practices
* Sexual practices
* Media practices
* Social practices
* Scholarly practices
* Cultural practices
* Fan practices
* Labour practices
Interested presenters are invited to send abstracts of 300 words and a
75 word bio to (doingculturalstudies /at/ gmail.com). Submissions are due by
Friday 18 October 2013.
Presenters will be notified by Thursday 31 October 2013. A limited
number of bursaries to assist with travel and accommodation costs will
be available to confirmed presenters. Please indicate if you wish to be
considered for a bursary when submitting your abstract, and what costs
you will use the bursary to cover.
Registrations for attendees will close on Monday 11 November 2013. To
register for this event email a 75 word bio to
(doingculturalstudies /at/ gmail.com). Registration for the event is free and
includes morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea; there will also be an
