CFP: Media Education Futures, 8-9 May, 2014
The International Conference on Media Education Futures examines media
literacies and education from various perspectives. The conference
highlights participation, well-being and citizenships as the current
Nordic perspectives in media education and discusses media and
information literacies contributing to inter-cultural dialogue on the
globe. The goal is to display and promote research in the field along
with the practices of media education. The conference program on the 8th
to 9th May 2014 will consist of keynote lectures, presentations, and
panel discussions. Submissions are invited from academics working at the
nexus of the media education and media literacy with particular
questions on:
What are the future media literacies?
What methods will be used to research and evaluate future media literacies?
How media education policies and research are in dialogue globally?
How the media environment is changing among generations?
What are the 21st Century media skills for students and teachers?
All original, unpublished papers presented at the conference will be
eligible to be considered for the 2015 Yearbook of The International
Clearinghouse on Children, Youth and Media by NORDICOM via a
double-blind review process.
For the actors of the practical field, an exhibition space for
materials, posters and publications will be provided at the conference

The keynote speakers and other representatives will include Professor
Divina Frau-Meigs, University of Paris 3 – Sorbonne, Professor Li
Xiguang, Tsinghua University, Chair of UNITWIN Network for Media and
Information Literacy, Professor Zhang Yanqiu, Communication University
of China, Associate Professor Pål Aarsand, Norwegian University of
Science and Technology (NTNU) and Assistant Professor Johanna Sumiala,
University of Helsinki.

Abstract submission:
To propose a paper, please send a 500 word abstract and a brief
biographical statement to
(mediaeducation /at/ uta.fi) by November 30, 2013.
Registration fee:
The early-bird conference fee is 100€ before March 10, late registration
fee is 140€, students 50€. The registration fee includes conference
folder, coffee breaks, 2 x lunch, and social programme.
Important dates:
Deadline for submission of abstracts: November 30, 2013
Notification of acceptance: February 10, 2014
