[ecrea] Conversation Analysis workshop / Sue Wilkinson

There will be workshops on */Conversation Analysis/*, run by Sue
Wilkinson, as pre-conference events before our forthcoming “Discourse -
Communication – Conversation” conference, 21-23^rd March 2012, at
Loughborough University:

“How do people perform actions - e.g. inviting, complaining, requesting,
refusing - in and through talk? How are such actions related to one
another across a stretch of interaction? How and why might someone
fine-tune - or even completely change - an action 'as it happens'? These
are the kinds of questions addressed by conversation analysis (CA): the
study of talk-in-interaction. This workshop provides a 'hands-on taster'
of CA for the non-specialist. Working with data - audio/video recordings
and transcripts - will look at what a CA approach to data analysis
entails and at what it has to offer. No previous experience of CA is
needed to take part in the workshop.”

£50 / £30 concessions.

We are extending the deadline for abstracts and registrations until
1.12.11, and are also happy to announce the more ‘DARG-side’ plenary
speakers (there will, of course, be impressive keynotes on the ‘CAMARG’
side too).

conference, 21.3.12, /The systematics of social interaction/

We also want to note that, as Derek Edwards has just retired, this may
be a rare opportunity to hear him speak again (and with Jonathan; it’ll
be a return to the 90s).
