Mon Oct 10 11:50:21 GMT 2011

The Centre for European Governance welcomes calls for papers for:

EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM FOR POLITICAL RESEARCH (ECPR)
STANDING GROUP ON REGULATION& GOVERNANCE
4th STANDING GROUP BIENNIAL CONFERENCE
NEW PERSPECTIVES ON REGULATION, GOVERNANCE AND LEARNING

University of Exeter, UK, 27-29 June 2012
Deadline for paper and panel proposals: 21 November 2011
          http://www.exeter.ac.uk/reggov2012/

We would like to invite proposals for panels or individual papers for the 2=
012 Conference of the Standing Group, to be held at the University of Exete=
r. The biennial conference is the main interdisciplinary academic conferenc=
e on regulation. Conference highlights include the Giandomenico Majone Priz=
e and the Best Conference Paper Award by a junior member of the profession,=
as well as specialist panels, guest speakers and Keynote lectures.

We are interested in receiving proposals relating to any aspect of the fiel=
d of regulatory studies. Our main interest is to promote high-quality resea=
rch, rigorous research regardless of methodological approach. We welcome pr=
oposals from accounting, anthropology, economics, law, organizational studi=
es, political theory, public policy analysis, political science and sociolo=
gy as well as interdisciplinary proposals. We are seeking both theoretical-=
conceptual-critical papers on regulation (as mode of governance, type of po=
licy, legal instrument, pattern of political conflict, and constitutional c=
hoice) and substantive contributions covering topics such as independent re=
gulatory agencies, the regulation of risk, climate change and sustainabilit=
y, regulatory innovations, and regulation in specific sectors of policy. Pr=
oposals on multi-level regulation, diffusion, are also welcome. We are flag=
ging up the topic of learning in the title of the conference both in relati=
on to the progress made across social science disciplines on understanding =
and measuring learning and because there is an objective need to learn in a=
n age of austerity. The costs and benefits of regulation are particularly i=
mportant in years of budgetary contractions, but so are the wider effects o=
f regulation on trust, behavior, human rights and distribution.

Panel and Paper proposals should be submitted using the online forms at

http://www.exeter.ac.uk/reggov2012/

If you are proposing a paper, please submit an abstract of no more than 200=
words using the online form. If you are proposing a full panel please note=
that all proposed panels should have a minimum of three papers and a maxim=
um of four, plus an (optional) discussant. All panel proposals should be co=
mpleted using the online form, including an abstract for each paper. The c=
onference will be hosted by the Department of Politics and the Centre for E=
uropean Governance (http://centres.exeter.ac.uk/ceg/) at the University of =
Exeter. The deadline for paper and panel proposals is Monday, 21 November 2=
011.
