CALL FOR PAPERS
EconPR 2010 6th International Conference
"Challenges to Communication
Management in International Mergers and Acquisitions?
16 ? 18 April, 2010
Poznan, POLAND
The financial crisis, economic downturn and
threat of recession spreading around the globe
since mid-2008, raised a demand for a fresh
econo-centric approach in public relations
research. That is the reason why this conference
is a follow-up of the 2009 EconPR Round Table
titled ?Economics and Public Relations in Times
of Economic Downturn?; its results have been
published in the Public Relations Review. Vol.35,
issue 4 November 2009 Special Section. This will
be another opportunity for the organizers to
emphasize the potential for positive disciplinary
exchanges ? between economic and public relations.
Like many other areas of business and finance,
M&A deals tend to boom when the economy grows and
collapse when the economy is going through a
rough patch. However, it is not only the global
economy fluctuations that contribute to the
downhill for the M&A business. Even in times of
economic prosperity, most mergers and
acquisitions fail because of poorly implemented
strategies where communication strategy is of crucial importance.
Particularly challenging for management are the
communication strategy issues in international
M&A?s. Some reasons include cultural differences
of doing business in a foreign country with the
potential to be a deal?breaker. That is why the
conference organizers will welcome conceptual
papers on communication strategies and
instruments in international mergers and
acquisitions, as well as the case studies relevant to the conference?s topic.
We will appreciate papers/case studies on the
following selected topics, addressing the key
issues of how to successfully communicate the M&A
process at the macro-, mezzo- and micro- levels of analysis:
* differences in socio-economic systems
influencing international M&A communication strategies;
* employee communications during international M&A ;
* the importance of investor relations for successful international M&A;
* communication challenges to acquisitions by
corporations from emerging economies in the developed ?Western? markets;
* the importance of trust and reputation for successful M&A;
* mistakes commonly made when communicating
M&A in a culturally different environment.
The best papers accepted for the conference
will, by their authors? consent, be considered
for inclusion in a book (in English), published
not later than 2011, and edited by Professor
Ryszard Lawniczak. Obviously, no guarantee of
acceptance can be promised as all submissions for
publication will still be required to undergo the
customary blind review process.
