COST298 Training School for
Early Stage Researchers (ESR)
DTV: innovation in contents,
uses and business models
Organized by COST298 and OberCom
Hosted by ISCTE
The Aims of the Training School
The notion of ?television? is interpreted very broadly as screens that exchange
audiovisual content with people within a specific socio-cultural and political economic context. This relates to issues of digitization, networking and convergence. The different participants will discuss specific aspects of (interactive digital) television in relation to other (new) media and socio-economic issues, based on their own research projects. The specific aim of this training school is to provide the networking of researchers and to innovate the discourse on DTV, focusing on innovation by users. The exclusiveness of this event also rests in the fact that the organizers will schedule possible sessions with DTV operators, allowing students to have an inside look at DTV.
In planning for this Training School we envisaged the following organizational
approach:
- the method of learning includes lectures, seminars, small group work on particular
tasks and student presentations.
- although a program has been elaborated, the contents of the Training School will be
left open so that specific interests of students may be covered.
Description of the benefits expected for the ESR
ESR will be empowered by this training school, acting autonomously as European
researchers, aware of what is involved in working together with other researchers belonging to different cultures and disciplinary backgrounds. Also, they will be able to get a closer look at DTV?s experiences in other countries, exchanging ideas, concepts
and methodological approaches.
Venue
The Training School will be hosted by ISCTE.
The recommended hotel for the Training School is Hotel Villa Rica (see details in the
Registration form).
Program and Speakers
The Training School will be organized around three strands: 1) Rethinking Television in the Network Society, focusing on the evolution of the concept of television itself; 2)
DTV and Everyday Life, analysing DTV domestication; and 3) DTV Institutional
Dynamics and Economics, dealing with the market and institutional view of the process
of TV digitalization.
