POWER REPORTING: THREE DAYS OF INTENSIVE TRAINING FOR INVESTIGATIVE =
JOURNALISTS FROM AROUND AFRICA

Wits Journalism invites you to its annual Power Reporting - African =
Investigative Journalism Conference 2009. This year's Conference takes =
place from Monday, 26 to Wednesday, 28 October 2009 at Wits University.=20

Power Reporting brings together the best of African investigative =
journalists with top investigative reporters from Europe and the USA.=20
=20
Some of the features will include:
Sports reporting and investigations, led by Andrew Jennings, author of =
Foul: The secret world of Fifa
A focus on business reporting, including Danny Schechter, author of =
Plunder: Investigating our Economic Calamity and the Sub-Prime Scandal
Exposing injustice, with a keynote speech by Raphael Rowe, who was =
released after 12 years in prison when his case was re-opened by =
journalists and is now a BBC producer working on injustice exposes.

Other international speakers include David Kaplan, Editorial Director of =
the Centre for Public Integrity in California and Head of the =
International Consortium of Investigative Reporters; Brant Houston, =
Knight Professor for Investigative and Enterprise Reporting, Illinois; =
and Sorious Samura, Sierra Leonean film maker.

This year, Wits Journalism has teamed up with the Forum for African =
Investigative Reporters (FAIR) to bring about 50 participants from 20 =
African countries - and Power Reporting is now recognized as part of the =
Global Investigative Journalism Network.

This year's workshop will be an intensive three-day event of hands-on =
skills training, the presentation of case studies and discussion and =
debate on the future of investigative reporting for investigative =
journalists from around Africa. Hands-on computer classes to develop =
your research and analytical skills, how to make a request under Access =
to Information legislation and reading company accounts will form part =
of the skills training agenda.
