SOUGHT FOR TWO-YEAR LARGE SCALE USER-ORIENTED STUDY

THE WHYS AND HOWS OF SATISFICING INFO NEEDS



SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, PROJECT MANAGER, OR POST-DOC SOUGHT for large scale 2 year research project "Sense-Making the Information Confluence:  The Whys and Hows of University User Satisficing of Information Needs."  The project, funded by U.S. Federal Government Institute of Museums and Library Services, will focus in particular on user use of electronic information resources.  Principal Investigator is Brenda Dervin, Professor of Communication at Ohio State University.   Co-investigators include Lynn Connaway and Chandra Prabha, Research Scientists at OCLC.  Desirable qualifications for candidates include as many of the following as possible:  preferably a doctorate in communication, library and information science, cognitive psychology, and/or human computer interaction, or related field; experience overseeing research project planning, implementation, and budget-tracking; experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research, preferably both or an interest in pursuing both; experience with survey research, Sense-Making interviewing, focus group research, and/or usability observations in lab or natural settings; experience managing analysis of large data bases with quantitative (e.g. SPSS) and/or qualitative software (e.g. NVivo and N6) or experience in acquiring software use prowess;  experience with user-oriented interpretive methods; experience with comprehensive state-of-the-art literature reviews.   Position starts 12/31/03 or as soon thereafter as possible and is a full-time Administrative and Professional position although less than full-time might be negotiated for the right candidate.  Person(s) in this position are entitled to all benefits, rights and privileges associated with A & P positions as specified within the Ohio State University Human Resource policy and procedure manual.
