[Commlist] Borderlands Special Issue, 18.1, Travelling Narratives and Images in Times of Migration published
Mon May 20 13:51:45 GMT 2019
Borderlands special issue, 18.1, 'Travelling Narratives and Images in
Times of Migration' is now available online:
http://www.borderlands.net.au/issues/vol18no1.html
This special issue presents an inter-disciplinary investigation of
migrant narratives and images in forms of text and art objects that
interrogate, problematise and represent the experience of exile and
migration. It invites readers 'to reconsider the way factors such as
materiality and gender are accentuated in the crossing of borders'. The
editors invoke Marianne Heske's artwork and, more specifically, her
short text in the booklet 'Stone Story' to characterise the approach of
this special issue and to 'demonstrate the critical potential of
reworking formal and narrative schemata of existing genres in order to
create poetic and critical reflections and perspectives on migration and
exile'. As the editors point out, in these times when it is more
important than ever to understand the experiences of exiles, migrants
and refugees, it is also important that such narratives encompass varied
textual, material and visual expressions and so make space for the
articulation of a plurality of stories and perspectives.
We are very grateful to the editors, Sigrun Åsebø, Anje Müller Gjesdal
and Camilla Skalle for their cooperation and commitment in the
compilation of this publication. Congratulations to them and to the
other authors who contributed articles: Andrea Ciribuco, Inge Lanslots,
Susan Ossman and Rachel Williams. It's been a pleasure working with you
all, your contribution to borderlands is very much appreciated.
