*/SECUENCIAS. REVISTA DE HISTORIA DEL CINE, /**ISSUE 45*

*/Secuencias /*launches a new issue composed of five articles, as well as book and DVD reviews. There is also an editorial text *in memory of José Luis Martínez Montalbán*, our journal’s first Editorial Chief, who passed away on 4^th November 2016.

The firstarticle, *‘C**o**mprehensive, Fruitless, Possessive, Inept Ones: Figures of the Mother in the Cinema of John Ford’*written by Nekane E. Zubiaur Gorozika, offers a classification of the diverse figures of the mother in John Ford’s cinema, focusing on their behaviour at the moment of the separation from their son.

Román Setton’s contribution, *‘Manuel Romero’s Early Crime Films and their Relation with Previous Crime Representation in the Argentine Cinema’*,**fills a gap in the academic publications about Argentinian crime film history analizying Romero’s three early crime films: /Noches de Buenos Aires/ (1935), /El caballo del pueblo/ (1935) and /La vuelta de Rocha/ (1937).

In the following article,*‘Between Religious Belief and Political Will: A Comparative Study of the Films /Todo es ausencia/ (1984), by Rodolfo Kuhn, and /En nombre de Dios/ (1987), by Patricio Guzmán’*,**Paola Margulis analyzes comparatively both Latin American documentaries about the relation between the Catholic Church and the dictatorial past of Argentina and Chile.

María Lorenzo Hernández´s *‘Robin Wright Reloaded. Nostalgia as Narrative Device in Ari Folman’s /The Congress /(2013)’ *relates Folman’s dystopian film with Morin and Dovjenko’s speculative theories of /total film/; Genette and Feyersinger’s /metalepsis/ concept; and Burch’s idea of the film as a /Frankesteinian/ /medium/, among others.

Lourdes Monterrubio Ibáñez writes *‘/Colossal Youth/ (2006), by Pedro Costa. **The Denied Letter, Speech, Memory and Resistance’ *where she studies the presence of the epistolary device on Costa’s film as a resistance act by means of speech and memory, against the marginalization and exclusion suffered by immigrants.

Finally, we have our regular book and DVD reviews feature. This issue includes texts about some of the main titles published between 2015 and 2017.

This issue, and all previous issues, can be found in https://revistas.uam.es/secuencias, as part of the Electronic Journal Web of the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid. The editorial team invites authors to submit their works to the permanently open Call for Papers.
