[ecrea] Gazette Special Issue: Media Diversity in Small States

Thu Jan 08 15:38:49 GMT 2009

New Special Issue of the
"International Communication Gazette" (Vol. 71, No. 1-2, 2009):

Media Diversity in Small States - Limited Options for Media Regulation?

http://gaz.sagepub.com/content/vol71/issue1-2/

In the last 15 years only a few publications have explicitly dealt with
small states. In this special issue of the "International Communication
Gazette" we argue that the structural peculiarities of small media
systems affect media regulation. In particular, in small states the
regulatory possibilities to protect and promote media diversity are
limited.

The special issue contains both theoretical reflections and case
studies focusing on different European small states. In conclusion, it
is suggested that existing models of media systems need to be amended
by the notion of smallness.

Edited by
Manuel Puppis (University of Zurich) &
Leen d'Haenens (Catholic University of Leuven & Radboud University
