*Communication and Society Journal Call for papers: “Communication and
Artificial Intelligence” *
*The Call for papers for the Communication and Society Journal on
Communication and Artificial Intelligence is open from November 25 to
January 15, 2025 ***

Artificial intelligence stands as one of the foremost technological
challenges of our time. With its considerable benefits in performing
numerous tasks and processing vast amounts of information, the
automation enabled by artificial intelligence has been acknowledged as a
means to enhance productivity, minimise human error, conserve resources,
and boost operational efficiency. Across sectors such as industry and
healthcare, artificial intelligence is regarded with optimism,
representing a promise of innovation that has not gone unnoticed in the
field of communication.
Despite the excitement and astonishment at the new possibilities
presented by systems capable of simulating human thought, artificial
intelligence has also prompted critical reflection, particularly in the
ethical domain. The extensive impact of "intelligent applications" on
communication processes calls for a thorough examination of the
implications of natural language technologies, algorithmisation, data
processing, and automated content generation on journalism, advertising,
and creative production. Issues such as copyright, information
credibility and quality, privacy, and citizen safety demand a conscious
and responsible approach to the adoption of artificial intelligence
mechanisms.
While challenging professional practices, automation systems are also
prompting an essential redefinition of the human role in information
production. To encourage dialogue on the diverse intersections between
communication and Artificial Intelligence, this volume of /Comunicação e
Sociedade/ welcomes manuscript submissions focusing on the following topics:
* Media and automated content generation;
* Journalistic routines and the quality of information;
* Algorithms and personalisation: impacts on media consumption and
opinion formation;
* Ethical implications of artificial intelligence technologies
(copyright, privacy, security) and regulation;
* Critical analysis of deepfakes, bots, and automation in the digital
space;
* Generative artificial intelligence and creativity in communication
practices (in journalism, advertising, strategic communication, and
audiovisual production);
* Immersive experiences and the evolution of human-machine interaction
in communication.
