*JOURNALISM ETHICS IN CRISIS*
*Global Media Misreporting the War on Palestine*
**
*Noureddine Miladi (Ed.)*
_Introduction: _
The ongoing genocide on Palestine since October 2024 has brought about
existential ethical concerns for journalism practice around the world.
While the images of a brutal war on Gaza and other Palestinian cities
and now on Lebanon have been flooding social media platforms across the
world, mainstream Western media, have hardly been showing both sides of
the conflict. On the contrary, scores of radio and TV channels,
newspapers and magazines across Europe and the United States have been
blatantly biased against the Palestinian narrative and sometimes
deliberately complicit in silencing Palestinian voices as is the
practice with the Israeli media.
World journalism has never been in crisis as during this occasion of
reporting the war on Palestine. Basic norms and ethics of news reporting
wars and crises have never witnessed such discrepancies in the global
media scenes. Social media platforms have become battlefields where bias
contested and counternarratives fought.
This timely edited volume aims to address the complexity of the global
media reporting of the war on Palestine. It attempts to unpack the media
management of this war by both official and independent media/political
players. It looks at the stance Western, Arab, Israeli as well as other
world media have taken in covering the war since 7 October 2024. The
book also discusses the growing challenge of digital content mediated by
social media platforms. It asks the questions, how much does the media
coverage resonate into public opinion formation and, hence help
influence policymakers' actions and decisions? What should be the role
of responsible journalism vis-à-vis this war? How can we redefine
objective and ethical journalism in reporting news amidst war-torn zones
such as Palestine and Lebanon.
