The Aesthetic Division at the Department of Philosophy, University of
Rijeka and the Croatian Society for Analytic Philosophy invite you to a
conference dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the publication of the
book that greatly influenced the development of contemporary analytic
aesthetics and philosophy of literature:
Truth, Fiction, and Literature
A Philosophical Perspective
With key note speakers

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars working in
philosophy of art and aesthetics, literary theory, literary studies,
cultural studies and other domains dedicated to the study of literature,
with the aim of honoring the immense impact that Peter Lamarque and
Stein Haugom Olsen, in their individual and joint writings, had on the
field of literary aesthetics and contemporary philosophy of literature.
The topics include, but are not limited to, the question of definition,
meaning and value of literature and various literary genres; literary
canon; interpretation of literary works; fiction and non-fiction;
relation of fiction and literature; questions of expression; philosophy
of poetry; narration; ontology of literature; emotional reactions to
literature; paradox of fiction; fictional characters; literature and
other forms of art; literature, truth and knowledge; literature and
ethics; the question of philosophical aspects of literature, and the
like. We are also interested in establishing a dialogue between literary
theorists and philosophers and to discuss methodological advantages and
disadvantages of various approaches to literature. In addition, we plan
to organize a roundtable dedicated to the current status of literature
in education and society, with the aim of promoting the values of the
humanities and the overall appreciation of literature.
The conference will take place at the University of Rijeka, December 6th
and 7th 2022.
We invite submissions for 30 minute presentations, followed by 15
minutes of Q&A. If you are interested in presenting your work, please
send the title and the abstract of max. 300 words by September 10th 2022
to Iris Vidmar Jovanović ((ividmar /at/ ffri.uniri.hr)). Notification of
acceptance will be sent out by September 15th. There is no conference
fee. All the papers presented at the conference are eligible for
publication in the special issue of Croatian Journal of Philosophy.
