As part of the Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2021 declared 
by UNESCO, the University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) has organized the 
First Conference on Media Literacy: How Media Consumption is worked in 
Obligatory Higher Education? This full day conference follows the Media 
and information literacy strategy of UN about Media and informational 
Literacy (MIL) so necessary nowadays to fight disinformation, 
emphasizing the sensibilization of Higher Education teachers about the 
importance of MIL in the educational process, so they can integrate it 
into their teachings by providing them methodologies and resources.

The goal of this conference is to share the current situation of MIL in 
public Higher Education Centers in Spain and how is being articulated 
this subject in the new Education Act (LOMCE), focusing on how 
Universities can help through its research by transferring ideas and 
knowledge about Media Literacy in the European and worldwide context. 
Communication and Media Scholars are welcome to participate along with 
Higher Education teachers and Education Scholars.

The conference is framed within a funded research conceded by Fundación 
BBVA through a Leonardo Scholarship:

The conference will take place on October 29 at the Campus of Puerta de 
Toledo in Madrid and registrations are now open for both physical and 
online attendances. In person attendances will have a limited number in 
accordance with COVID-19 regulations in Spain and they will be given in 
order of registration, while online attendances will follow the 
conference by streaming.
