[Commlist] Conference: Innovative Planet Go Mobile – Stay Sustainable

Fri Apr 16 11:32:41 GMT 2021

The second *Mobile Studies Congress* will take place from the 13th to 15th November 2021 at Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne) Hawthorn Campus and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China. Due to international travel restrictions, we are collaborating online. The theme for the second edition is *Go Mobile – Stay Sustainable*. The virtual conference will feature paper presentations, a panel discussion on Polyphonic documentary storytelling & sustainability with Dr Judith Aston (Associate Professor Interactive & Immersive Media at UWE Bristol) and Dr Stefano Odorico (Reader in Contemporary Screen Media at Leeds Trinity University), project showcases, PhD research project panels and workshops. Participation can be in person, live online or via pre-recorded contributions. As part of the event, the */10th International Mobile Innovation Screening/* will be presented, including the new category of #EcoSmartphoneFilms co-curated by Dr Gerda Cammaer (Associate Professor at Ryerson University and co-founder & director of the Moving Image Arts international short film festival) and Max Schleser (founder & festival Director MINA & Researcher in the Centre for Transformative Media Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology). Before the screening, Dr Karoly Bardosh (Associate Professor NYU Tisch, New York University) will present a keynote on /Smartphone Filmmaking and 21st-century Storytelling/. To understand sustainability, we need to broaden the discussion and include multiple voices in this conversation. We are interested in exploring Imaginary Futures - Ecological Utopia and Dystopia, the Anthropocene as a global discourse with local impact and the development of ecological literacies. As there is No plan B, we need to create one. Mobile Storytelling embraces the potential for opening screen storytelling to new forms and formats, as well as innovative ways to collaborate and co-create. In an inclusive, dynamic and provocative environment, our event will be focusing on exploring screen storytelling and its implications and contributions to an innovative and more equitable planet.
The */Go Mobile – Stay Sustainable/* initiative is organised by the
