[Commlist] Animation: Key Films/Filmmakers series update and CALL FOR NEW BOOKS

Mon Nov 23 18:57:29 GMT 2020

Chris Pallant ((chris.pallant /at/ CANTERBURY.AC.UK)) wanted to provide you with a update on how the Animation: Key Films/Filmmakers series is progressing, which is published by Bloomsbury and for which he serves as Series Editor. The series now has ten titles either in print or approaching publication, and three other titles close to manuscript submission:

/Toy Story: How Pixar Reinvented the Animated Feature/ (2018)

Edited by: Susan Smith, Noel Brown, and Sam Summers

/Norman McLaren: Between the Frames/ (2018)

By: Nichola Dobson

/Princess Mononoke: Understanding Studio Ghibli’s Monster Princess/ (2018)

Edited by Rayna Denison

/Hayao Miyazaki: Exploring The Early Work of Japan’s Greatest Animator/ (2018)

By: Raz Greenberg

/Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: New Perspectives on Production, Reception, Legacy/ (2021)

Edited by Chris Pallant and Christopher Holliday

/Allegro Non Troppo: Bruno Bozzetto’s Animated Music/ (2021)

By Marco Bellano

/Coraline: A Closer Look at Studio LAIKA’s Stop-Motion Witchcraft/ (2021)

Edited by Mihaela Mihailova

/Grendel, Grendel, Grendel: Animating Beowulf/ (est. 2022)

By Dan Torre and Lienors Torre

/Sylvain Chomet’s Distinctive Animation: From The Triplets of Belleville to The Illusionist/ (est. 2022)

By Maria ilia Katsaridou

/Genndy Tartakovsky: Sincerity in Animation/ (est. 2022)

By Kwasu Tembo

For the next chapter in the life of the series I would like to adopt a more welcoming stance towards North American subject matter. *If you have an idea for a book that you think might fit well in this series then I encourage you to drop me an email and we can discuss this in more detail.*

Some films with anniversaries in 2023 and 2024 that could make for good additions to the series . . . just to get the ball rolling:

/The Nightmare Before Christmas/ (1993)

/The Lion King/ (1994)

/Faust/ (1994)

/Finding Nemo/ (2003)

/The Polar Express/ (2004)

/Frozen/ (2013)

/The Tale of the Princess Kaguya/ (2013)

/Song of the Sea/ (2014)
