The University of Cagliari and the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata' welcome scholars, researchers, and communication professionals to the 6th World Conference on Media and Mass Communication (MEDCOM 2020). The conference will be held on 28th – 30th of May, 2020 on the University of Cagliari campus in Sardinia, Italy under the theme "Communication and Cultural Change".

The MEDCOM 2020 conference theme, "Communication and Cultural Change", aims to provide a platform for academics, independent researchers, artists, and activists to share their collective wisdom on the implications, opportunities and challenges of communication in an interconnected world. We encourage research that embraces a wide variety of disciplinary and cultural perspectives. Submit your research abstract to seek eligibility to showcase your work at this prestigious international forum.

Communication is the other side of representation of knowledge. Symbols, languages, technologies, and media mediate all we know about the world we live in. Our cognitive processes and artifacts do not objectively mirror the perception of reality, rather our perception is a negotiation among several entities – reality, languages and us (our body, minds, and social relationships). This is why communication is so important in all aspects of our lives (social and behavioral). However, the strategies that are in place when we communicate are not clear with regard to how we understand each other, persuade, and make alliances to change a culture. One could argue that for this reason, social campaigns and messages that are designed to encourage “good” behaviors (such as do not cause environmental pollution, do not smoke, increase physical activity, adopt auto-limitation behaviors, etc.) are not so effective. In this conference, we will explore the cognitive, emotional, and social processes involved in communication and in particular in the social communication area.

The scientific committee is constituted by scholars and experts selected for their great knowledge of and competence in one or more topics guaranteeing high quality and fairness in the reviewing process. The chairs of the conference (Andrea Volterrani, Elisabetta Gola, Fabrizio Meloni) and the head of the panels (Alessandro Lovari, Emiliano Ilardi, Francesca Ervas, Alessio Ceccherelli, Daniela Francesca Virdis) have selected the members of the scientific committee in accordance with the members’ academic, scholarly expertise, and ethical values.
