Venue and timings: Geological Society, Piccadilly,W1J 0BDin central London. 10.00am – 4.00pm.

The conference will consider the implications for UK broadcasters of the rapidly changing media marketplace and for any student studying journalism or broadcasting policy it will be a great opportunity to hear from those leading the way in UK broadcasting.

In the first session of the day, ITV’s Chief Executive, Dame Carolyn McCall, will be in conversation with Torin Douglas, addressing some of the specific challenges facing the UK’s largest commercially funded public service broadcaster.

In the second session, chaired by Ray Snoddy, Sir David Clementi, Chairman of the BBC, will be giving his perspective on the key issues facing the BBC.

In the first session after lunch, John Humphrys will reflect on his long career in broadcasting in which his tenacious interviewing style has attracted much admiration and some controversy. John, who joined the BBC in 1966, recently stepped down as a presenter on Radio 4’s Today programme after 32 years. John will be signing copies of his new book, A Day Like Today, during the lunchtime interval.

In the final session of the day, Professor Matt Hills of Huddersfield University will be presenting new research on ‘default TV’, looking at how people decide what to watch in the era of multi-platform, multi-device and multi-streaming television. This will be followed by a panel discussion chaired by Mathew Horsman on the implications for the public service broadcasters including prominence and discoverability.
