[ecrea] cfp: "Mediatized Gender - Gender Perspectives on Mediatized Societies"

Wed Aug 24 13:24:21 GMT 2011

From Medienwissenschaft Universität Bonn <(tagung /at/ ifk.uni-bonn.de)>

Invitation to the International Conference "Mediatized Gender - Gender Perspectives on Mediatized Societies", University of Bonn, Germany,
Sept. 22-24, 2011.

Women in the Western world have, in most part, been actively
participating in the digital revolution of the Web 2.0 and social
media, whereas in developing countries they often lack access, media
literacy or the support of their personal environment.

Different media offer various influences, which become concrete in
specific ways, depending on the social field that is mediatized.
Gendered mediatization thus focuses on specific contexts and
media-based activities, which are reflections of societal
constructions of gender.

The aim of this international conference is to discuss this ongoing
mediatization of present social and cultural fields with a gender
perspective.

Keynotes:

Judith Ackermann, University of Bonn, Germany: "Gendered gaming -
Perspectives on Teens' Digital Literacy“

Leopoldina Fortunati, University of Udine, Italy: “Digital women:
changes in the adoption and domestication of the new media”

Karen Ross, University of Liverpool, UK: “Women Framed: Gender,
Politics and News Media“

Registration will be open until September, 6th:
